Problem PosingThis math happening was inspired by my friend Mary anne Rossbach, a brilliant math coach at Mosby Woods Elementary She was sadden by the Food Warrior Project data but also inspired by how they took action and engage her students in the work of cutting down food waste. She used these photo prompts and real data from the cafeteria to inspire math modeling to take action.

In the article from Quanta Magazine, the spread of flu was compared to the spread of rumor.
https://www.quantamagazine.org/fluvaccinesandthemathofherdimmunity20180205/
If each day, each person who heard the rumor yesterday tells two new people, then after 30 days the rumor will have reached more than a quarter of the world’s population (2,147,483,647 people, or 2^{31} − 1, to be exact). How can such a seemingly small change — telling two people instead of one — make such a big difference? The answer lies in rates of change. (From Quanta Magazine)
